Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Music Teacher to join our dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to inspire pupils through high-quality music education while contributing to a thriving extracurricular programme.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Curriculum Development

·       Deliver engaging and effective music lessons across the 11 – 18 age range in line with the English national curriculum for Key Stage 3, IGCSE, BTEC, and IBDP Music courses, ensuring pupils reach their full potential.

·       Develop and implement creative lesson plans that integrate music technology to enhance learning.

·       Monitor and report on pupil progress in line with department and school policies, maintaining strong communication with parents.

·       Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging pupils to develop their confidence and skills.

·       Take on pastoral tutor responsibilities, ensuring the well-being and development of students.

·       Support the school community by supervising pupils during unstructured time, covering for absent colleagues, and invigilating exams as needed.

Extracurricular Activities

  • Lead and rehearse school choirs, orchestras, and instrumental ensembles, preparing pupils for performances and competitions.

  • Organise and participate in school concerts, recitals, and musical events, enriching the school’s artistic culture.

Professional Development

  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in music education and technology, integrating innovative approaches into teaching.

  • Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to the wider school community.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with colleagues in Music, Art, Drama, and Film to foster a collaborative and enriching arts programme.

Maintain strong communication with students, parents, and staff, ensuring a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Job requirements

Essential:

·       A good honours degree in Music with strong subject knowledge and performing skills.

·       A certified teaching qualification, e.g. PGCE (UK) or Licenciatura (Brazil).

·       Experience teaching Key Stage 3 and IGCSE Music.

·       Strong instrumental skills with experience leading choirs, orchestras, or instrumental ensembles.

·       Proficiency in music technology to enhance learning and engagement.

·       Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and flexible approach.

·       Ability to inspire, lead, and motivate pupils while managing a busy workload efficiently.

·       A positive, proactive attitude towards professional development.

Desirable:

·       Experience teaching in an international school setting.

·       Additional qualifications or training in music technology.

·       Experience teaching BTEC and IBDP Music.
