GENERAL

Working under the direction of the learning support teachers/coordinator and subject teachers in the Senior School, in the teaching and learning of children who have Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND).

Main Responsibilities:

Support pupils by:

  • Working to establish a supportive relationship with the children and their teachers to help them with their learning
  • Carry out agreed in-class support to target learning needs and reinforce learning strategies in order to promote independent learning to support pupil understanding
  • Promoting and reinforcing the child’s self-esteem and encouraging the child to maximise their achievement and development
  • Developing knowledge about particular types of special need and strategies to support learning

Support teachers by:

  • Providing support in lessons to pupils across different subject areas, under the guidance of the learning support teachers, subject teachers and learning support coordinator
  • Supporting teachers with feedback about children’s learning strengths and challenges that will help them to plan lessons that meet children’s needs
  • Attending planning meetings and under the overall direction and guidance of the teacher, contribute to the short, medium and long term planning and preparation of lessons
  • Preparing and delivering activities and specific interventions under the direction of the teacher
  • Monitoring, evaluating and providing teachers with feedback on pupils’ participation and progress
  • Contributing to the maintenance of Individual Education Plans
  • Developing subject specific knowledge about the curriculum and teaching schemes used at St Paul’s School
  • Attending and contributing to meetings with parents and other professionals in order to support the monitoring and development of children with SEND where appropriate

Support the school by:

  • Being aware of and working within the framework of the school’s policies and procedures
  • Being aware of confidential issues linked to home/pupil/teacher/school work and to work in line with the school Safeguarding policy
  • Contributing to behaviour management of pupils in accordance with the school policy and guidance
  • Providing cover and support in different sections of the school as required, on a temporary basis
  • Attending staff meetings and school inset days, undergoing training, as required by the Head Teacher
  • Preparing resources and supporting the Learning Support Unit Coordinator with administrative tasks as required


TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This is an academic full-time post. Staff are expected to be in school from 7.30 am to 4 pm from Mondays to Fridays, with one hour for lunch. In addition to normal working hours the holder of this post may need to attend school meetings and functions that are held outside these times. The holder of the post is expected to work the hours that are necessary to fulfil their responsibilities and meet the needs of the school.

This is a temporary contract that is expected to last until December 2024.

Safeguarding

The offer of the role would be made subject to receipt of satisfactory references, proof of relevant qualifications, identification checks and other safeguarding checks (including Internet and Social Media profiles and exposure), an overseas check if appropriate and a pre-placement medical assessment. Proof of entitlement to work in Brazil is also required where necessary.

Job requirements

  • Fluent English
  • Previous experience or desire to develop a career in Education
  • Ability to establish positive professional relationships (with staff, pupils and parents)
  • Empathetic approach to working with pupils with different types of SEND
  • Knowledge of different types of SEND and how this may impact on learning and experience within this field is desirable
  • Lifelong learning attitude
  • To be collaborative and a team worker
  • Skills and knowledge of IT systems and platforms to support record keeping and educational provision planning
