Pre-Prep Teacher

Job description


We are seeking well-qualified, enthusiastic committed and inspirational pre-prep school class teachers (early years). Potential candidates should have the necessary educational qualifications (PGCE from the UK/Pedagogia from a Brazilian University) as well as experience of working with children within this age range and some experience of teaching the full range of subjects taught at primary level. Creativity and a child centred approach are expected.

All teachers should demonstrate a full commitment to the life of the school and are encouraged to pursue both their own professional development, as well as have an aspiration to help the school continue to develop and extend its reputation for excellence.

An outline of the role

The role of the teacher at St Paul’s is to promote at all times and in every possible way the pupils’ intellectual and social development and learning, including independent learning skills. This role develops according to the age group, for which the head of year may give appropriate guidance.

All teaching must be done in English.

Pupils’ Development, Teaching and Learning

Academic Learning (including, but not limited to):

  • a) Creating and monitoring lessons and learning activities which are appropriate to a range of learning styles and pupil abilities.
  • b) Provoking and developing children’s sense of curiosity and wonder about the world.

Social Development (including, but not limited to):

  • a) Ensuring a safe, stimulating, ordered and supportive environment for learning.
  • b) focusing on each individual child, providing a holistic approach to foster children’s social and emotional development and pastoral care.

Professional/Self-development (including, but not limited to):

  • Active participation in self-development and record keeping of personal goals, training and development initiatives undertaken.

Professional Relationships

with other teachers and staff (including, but not limited to):

  • a) Being a team player – supporting the work of other colleagues by participating in meetings and participating in shared planning for the relevant year groups, covering absent teachers, duties etc.

with parents (including, but not limited to):

  • a) Reporting on pupil progress, orally and in writing, as may be required by school procedure.

To undertake such other duties and responsibilities as the Head of Prep may reasonably direct from time to time.

This job description will form part of the annual cycle of the staff review and development process and this will be an opportunity to refine certain aspects and functions listed in it.

There is a possibility of a leadership position depending on application, please include your interest in your personal statement and provide examples of relevant leadership experience.

  • To have a university degree qualification;
